Venice, Italy
Venice, the capital of northern Italy’s Veneto region, is built on more than 100 small islands in a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea. It has no roads, just canals – including the Grand Canal thoroughfare – lined with Renaissance and Gothic palaces. The central square, Piazza San Marco, contains St. Mark’s Basilica, which is tiled with Byzantine mosaics, and the Campanile bell tower offering views of the city’s red roofs.
We did an overnight flight to Venice through Paris and arrived so tired in Venice that we had hardly anytime there at all. We learned not to wait for the boat from the airport to Venice as it required 2 hours of waiting, we should have just taken the direct shuttle bus.
It was hot and Airbnb doesn’t seem to understand the concept of air conditioning, next time we will stay in a hotel with air conditioning if we are there in the summer. Next time: visit in the non-summer months.
